Rusland holds a Spring Show every March/April, at the Rusland Reading Rooms, organised by the Reading Room Committee. Entries are open to anyone, and the hall and marquee is always a riot of colour with spring bulbs, pasche eggs, decorated cakes, photographs, paintings, poems, with children's entries adorning the walls. Tea and delicious cakes are on sale from the kitchen. The Show helps to raise important funds for the upkeep of the Rusland Reading Room (village hall).
Past Rusland Spring Shows
The Show is held at the end of March every year. For March 2016, David Hoyle and Judi Winterson, together with Robert Wallace, have kindly taken on the coordination of the Show from Gordon and Elsie Wilkinson. The Show was Gordon and Elsie Wilkinson's idea to see in the spring after the long winter, and to encourage people to plant spring bulbs, and to raise important fund for the Reading Rooms. The weather is as unpredictable as it can possibly be:-
In 2012, we languished at tables outside in hot sunshine.
In 2013, we had 4 ft snow drifts!
The 2015 Show (28th/29th March) was held on a wet and very windy weekend. Just as we thought Spring had sprung, we were reminded that winter was not yet over! However, despite the weather, there was an excellent turn-out of entries and a steady stream of visitors. Some £750 was raised in support of the Rusland Reading Rooms. Thanks to everyone who helped out and especially to Gordon and Elsie Wilkinson who dedicate so much time and effort to make the Show happen.
